About Us
Hi there! My name is Emma (she/her) and I am the founder of Birthplace Music Therapy. I am music therapist with more than 6-years of experience serving newborns, children, parents, and birthing people in the medical setting. I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2017 with a degree in music therapy and am board certified. I also underwent specialized training to provide safe music therapy services to premature infants who are hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU-MT), perinatal mental health (PMH-C), and to assist with music therapy during childbirth (MTACB).
After working in a children’s and birthing hospital, I became passionate for supporting families from pregnancy through parenthood. Though I specialize in early childhood, I have experience supporting individuals of all ages in individual and group music therapy services. Music therapy utilizes music to work toward non-musical goals, with common areas including stress reduction, pain management, relaxation, developmental growth, bonding/attachment, executive functioning, social skills, and legacy building.
